Our second release comes just in time for the second birthday of Cuckoo Bar. In this time we have had an array of different djs, local and international, live electronic and instrumental sets, all of which has been great inspiration for what is to be our first Various Artist compilation.

12″ Phildo – Bradtoldmeto – Inspiration can be heard from all corners of the globe, this peak time house track is strong on the percussive side, a stomping kick drum and a rude cow bell ringing out with intense persistence. The percussion builds the track well until the lone lead synth drops, this lead line takes its place as the main source of drive through the middle of the track. Dirty and warm, it carves out a catchy melody with a dark mood, while its thick filtering adds to its nastiness, and the intensity builds up to peak and then filter back down as the mood changes with the introduction of a vintage high string. Instant classic!
Martinho – Green Power – This is to be Martinho’s first release, and if it’s anything to go by, we can look forward to great things from this man. A strong love for detroit house can be heard in this piece. The stripped back nature of this sort of track can only be successful when the sounds have been meticulously sculpted and treated with love, tick that box! Using a inspirational speech as the centerpiece for the track, Martinho has carved out a deep, synth driven journey around the dialog, building the track as the speech reaches its climax. As the crowd cheers and claps a chorded melody breaks into the forefront and in my opinion this is the moment that makes this track. Listen for yourself, its a gem.
The Carter Bros – The Hook – Our lads from 001 are back with a dance floor tool to break out at anytime of night or morning. The recognisable filtered house sound of the two brothers has evolved immensely since their first releases. They have an understanding of what is needed to make a club pulse and are constantly searching for The ultimate club Hook. High souring strings, solid fat kick, cut up filtered samples with ever changing ways of looping. This is the unique Carter Bros sound.
TACE – Mechanismo – Playing live and making electronic music for well over 15 years has given Tace the knowledge and experience to know when things don’t have to be over complicated. Mechanismo is tuff, relentless, simple stripped back mesmerizing house. The slow fading of the different forces used to drive the track is timed to perfection, each part dropping out and entering with precision, and changing just enough to prickle your ears up. When a high pad enters at about half way it’s all that is needed to give the listener a sense of urgency in waiting for the drop, and when it does it’s done with class and taste (or tace), excuse the pun…
FlowerPot – Marmalade Jam – This duo jump onboard with an eccentric late night/early morning jam from their fruit tree. A monotonous beat is made interesting by the constantly changing delays, bouncing off each other to create strange sub-rhythms and liquid effects. This is the driving force behind this mainly percussive track, until an unexpected eery metallic synth joins the fold. Far from the realms of a song, this “radio boy” esque journey has its place on the dance floor, it’s up to the dj to find when that is…
