003 – Inkswel & The UHOH! Orchestra

Inkswel and his mysterious UHOH! Orchestra have been making sweet sweet love to their MPC for some time now. This release, with its raw head nodding grooves is the culmination of their musical inspirations. It takes on various forms throughout the 6 tracks, rugged dj tools and raw headphone music, as well as dope bboy dancefloor shakers.

Exclusive to Cuckoo Music & Juno, this third release includes a intricate, organic remix by FlowerPot and a two part remix by The Carter Bros. The latter being strictly for the club.

The third release from fledgling Australian imprint Cuckoo music has been a long time coming but totally worth the wait! If All City Records decide to follow up their LA series with a focus on headphone-ish down under jams they’d be smart to start with Inkswel and his mysterious Uhoh Orchestra. Little might be known about them but a prodigious talent for flipping laid back melodic strains of funk over intricate MPC beat patterns is evident from the tracks included on Deep Sea Voyage. The title track really sets the tone, bringing skull snapping beat crunches raining down gleefully over a psychedelic soul backing embellished with amplified electric piano flourishes. Much like the majority of tracks its short at just over two minutes but there’s plenty of intricate production to consume yourself in throughout. Remixes from Cuckoo cohorts Flowerpot and The Carter Brothers are included for club movements with the latter delivering a particularly fine two part “Theme For Inkswel”.
