004 12″ Phildo – Underneath The Buttons
Phil Rogers (12″phildo), brings us his first solo EP entitled Underneath The Buttons. The fourth release from this growing Australian label is a journey through deep organic house vibes, and promises listeners a taste of Phil’s musical visions.
‘It Won’t Move’ is the main attraction, coming in at a sludgy down tempo pace. It’s deep – moving along with progressive chords, verbed claps and well designed, cosmic synths, all of which keep interest flowing. With anticipation increasing, the track all but stops before switching both tempo and mood, as fresh drums enter along with swirling resonant pads. The track grows once more as a filtered vocal pops in and out, and melodies take centre stage, all building to an energising final drop. Using ‘It Won’t Move’ as the vehicle, 12” Phildo presents a fresh perspective on fusing sounds.
The remix by Melbourne based producer Andras Fox is probably more functional for the djs out there. It holds the pace steady and beefs up the vibe with a solid bass line. Andras’ love for his MPC makes him the perfect candidate for remixing the slow burning original. He tears out the melodies and drums and restructures ‘It Won’t Move’ with ease, finishing off with a beautiful crackling melodic sample. Big TIP!
The third track ‘While You Wait’ rounds off the release. It is a stripped back machine excursion, oozing with interstellar feelings, and high-tension pads. Reverb is key here; with a minimal amount of sounds, the vibe is generated through sombre melodies and long tailing delays.
