November is shaping up as an exciting month for Cuckoo. As mentioned a few weeks back, and as you can see on the flyer above, we have Melbourne export Tornado Wallace (Lewie Day), what wasn’t mentioned is that we have now added Jay Shepheard to the bill!!
Jay Shepheard has been working hard over the past years, having found a nice little niche with Munich-based imprint Compost back in 2006 (and their Black Label series in particular). His early productions, which touched on the deeper fringes of house and tech house, drew plaudits from all directions and secured him remix work for the likes of Buzzin’ Fly and Dirt Crew.
With a background in music including playing in high school bands to working in music PR and several years working at UK online music store Juno, Jay Shepheard first arrived on the scene in 2007 with the release of his “Black Label #19″ EP on Compost. Since then his releases have consistently achieved critical acclaim from DJs, music lovers and the press alike and earned Jay nominations for Best Deep House act of 2007 and Best Nu Disco act of 2009 in the Beatport Music Awards.
Outside of the studio Jay has also built a reputation in the booth, playing both DJ and live sets all over Europe in some of the leading venues including Fabric in London, Goa in Madrid, Watergate in Berlin and Monza in Frankfurt to name just a few. Outside of Europe Jay has also played several gigs in Russia and China and has also completed his first tour of Australia taking in 5 shows over 2 weekends in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Brisbane….
Tornado Wallace can be best described in two words: humble and gifted. Skinny but not starving, Tornado has fed the appetite of listeners worldwide with something different. Utilising knowledge from a host of genres, he has forged an individual and honest sound with more than just gunshots and the odd cowbell. His music can be described as sleazy, slow and ready for grinding on the dancefloor.
Tornado Wallace aka Lewie Day is already known for some rhythmic impressions thanks to LD releases on Murmur, 8bit and Herzlich, but its Tornado Wallace and his Paddlin ep on Delusions of Grandeur that has been whipping up a storm amongst the house and disco purist world wide.
Little know that Tornado Wallace is alos Lewie Day. Lewie Day is a young producer/DJ on the rise. His sound can be described as deep house/house and his tracks have become an instant hit with legendary DJs such as Laurent Garnier, Danny Tenaglia, Sebo K and Wolf+Lamb.
Our friends at T.E.A are presenting us with another great act. Adrian Nicholson aka J U G is an Australian born producer with a string of recent Vinyl and Digital releases. His first tracks dropped in 09 with an EP on Autoreply Music called, The difficult word. This featured 4 tracks including a remix by longtime pal Mark Henning. Soon after he followed up with appearances on labels such as, Vitalik, Release Sustain, Multivitamins.
Pumped to hear him in the flesh. Check out a Dj set here
